The Kings Canyon High Basin Route (KCHBR) is a 170ish mile off-trail route through the High Sierra. Developed by Andrew Skurka in 201?, the route includes no GPS data, only a mapset with waypoints that you must enter into a gps yourself or navigate solely with map and compass. It is hard. So insanely difficult climbing an average of 700ft/mile. Compared to the overall PCT average of 350ft/mile, the lack of easy footpath adds much greater difficulty. With no trail, one walks over endless talus and scree fields. I won’t call the route “dangerous,” but it’s certainly not safe especially for the unprepared and novice.
